Having tried to sign Edouard Michut again, it’s clear that Sunderland AFC want a new midfielder before the end of the transfer window.

They may not be getting the young Frenchman, but they are going after an alternative who goes by the name of Miguel Crespo.

This is what Sports Digital journalist Yağız Sabuncuoğlu has revealed on Friday afternoon, as he claims Sunderland have ‘officially contacted’ Fenerbahçe about a deal.

The 26-year-old has made three appearances to date this season with the Turkish side, all in the Conference League qualifiers, but doesn’t appear to be a first-team regular for them.

That has opened the door for an exit for the 26-year-old, which Sunderland are trying to take advantage of, as they continue to stay busy on transfer deadline day.

Crespo has been in Turkey since 2021, when he signed for Fenerbahçe for €1.5m from Estoril Praia in Portugal.

This comes after claims they had reached an agreement in principle for the transfer of Timothée Pembélé from Paris Saint-Germain, with the right-back set to sign a long-term contract at the Stadium of Light.
