Pedrinho

Things have just got a bit more interesting in Chelsea’s chase of Corinthians wonderkid Pedrinho.

Back in January, when the midfielder was playing in Brazil’s most famous youth tournament, Pedrinho’s agent Will Dantas told Sport Witness he had received a call from someone at Chelsea.

As far as we know, that was the only contact from the Blues so far, as no further talks took place with European clubs.

Meanwhile, the 18-year-old made it to the first team and has been impressing in training. Things are happening quickly: he was registered to play the State Championship and is now extending his contract, even before making his professional debut.

Besides getting a new deal, the player’s entourage is agreeing a partnership with agent Giuliano Bertolucci, one of the most successful Brazilian representatives in Europe.

“Giuliano will take care of the international part,” Dantas told Sport Witness on Thursday. “He will open the international market.”

Asked about Pedrinho’s new release clause, Dantas revealed it will be of “around 200 million”, which should be about £52m.

Why is this partnership so interesting for Chelsea? It’s simple. Bertolucci is basically responsible for most of the deals with Brazilians who have played for the club.

By being Kia Joorabchian’s right hand, Bertolucci had a part in deals taking players such as David Luiz, Willian, Oscar, Kenedy and Ramires to Chelsea.

Pedrinho, just like Dantas, seems really focused on starting his career well for Corinthians for now. The player is considered to be one of the club’s greatest youth talents in the past few years and won’t be leaving easily.

But with Bertolucci working for him now, we wouldn’t be surprised if Chelsea’s contacts for a future move restart. It should be a matter of time.
