On August 30th, Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri reported that Antonio Conte is pushing Tottenham Hotspur to sign Atlético Madrid’s Yannick Carrasco.

He also stated the ex-AS Monaco man is open to making a switch to the Premier League before the window closes.

Tavolieri’s claim surfaced after reports in the English press discussed Tottenham interest in the 28-year-old. It was also explained the Premier League side are in talks with Los Rojiblancos over a potential deal for the winger.

Wednesday’s Marca states losing the Belgium international at this stage of the window would break Diego Simeone’s plans completely since he is an ‘essential’ player for the manager.

“You cannot imagine it. It is normal that for all the coaches, except for two or three clubs to which this does not usually happen, the rest of us are in a last-minute situation that something could happen that the clubs understand is important to do,” Simeone said.

“We are workers of the club, we are not the owners, and we are waiting for them to finish. Hopefully we can finish [with] those of us who are here today.”

The Argentine coach has not been informed that Tottenham could go after the wideman, who can also operate as a wing-back. At the moment, Atlético don’t have an offer from Spurs nor they are in talks with them over a potential deal for Carrasco.

Those in charge at the Metropolitano insist their summer business has been completed following the arrival of Sergio Reguilón on loan from the north London club.

Despite this, Marca state: ‘No one [from Atlético] dares to put their hand in the fire to ensure that there will be no more movements between today and tomorrow, showing that concern is inevitable.’

Carrasco has a €60m release clause and if the Premier League side want to sign him, they will have trigger it.

Tottenham have the financial muscle to carry out this operation. Marca say the Premier League side ‘looming’ over the Belgian has become the main concern for the Madrid club.
