Over the past couple of days, the idea that Frenkie de Jong could head to Chelsea has grown quite a bit.

The news the Blues were getting closer to signing the Dutchman was revealed on Wednesday morning, and it appears, according to Jota Jordi for El Chiringuito, that a decision will be taken soon.

De Jong’s agents arrived in Barcelona on Thursday to reportedly present their client with offers they have, with many speculating one of those would be from Chelsea.

Well, if the aforementioned journalist is to be believed, the situation surrounding the midfielder ‘ends today’.

The player ‘only has two options’, according to Jordi, who reveals that ‘either Frenkie de Jong lowers his wages (to stay at Barcelona) or Frenkie de Jong goes to Chelsea’.

Basically, the La Liga side need their player to reduce his salary to be able to register some of their signings from the summer transfer market, but the player has stood firm to date.

He’s made it clear he’d rather stay in Barcelona if he can, where Xavi would be more than happy to use him, but financial constraints mean those above the manager see it differently.

This could work out for Chelsea, who can offer the player Champions League football and a high wage.
