Portuguese newspaper A Bola today features a story about the ‘imminent business’ that Benfica have on the table until the end of the transfer window.

One of them is the case of Gonçalo Ramos, who’s recently been linked to Newcastle United and could be on his way to St. James’ Park.

A Bola first claims that the striker ‘has offers from England’, and then points out that the Magpies have been the ‘latest’ to get interested in his signing.

It’s said that Newcastle can place a bid worth around €35m, and Benfica have ‘been making it known’ that they’re only willing to negotiate him for over €40m.

Another obstacle the Magpies could have is that Eagles’ manager Roger Schmidt asked the club to ‘avoid’ his sale, but it still isn’t guaranteed that the Lisbon side will resist such a large sum of money.

It was journalist Pedro Sepulveda who wrote earlier this week that Newcastle ‘will come forward with an offer’ for Ramos soon.

It’s worth recalling that not long ago, Benfica reportedly turned down an offer of over €30m from Nottingham Forest.
