Villarreal star Álex Baena has ended up on Aston Villa’s agenda for the summer window, according to Tuesday’s edition of AS.
The winger has managed five goals and 16 assists and is leading La Liga’s charts with 12 assists, three more than Barcelona’s Raphinha, who is in second spot.
Baena’s fine displays could lead to an exit in the next window and when discussing interested parties, AS say ‘Aston Villa is the big one’.
Atlético Madrid are also in the mix as the 22-year-old has a fan in Diego Simeone.
His current deal lasts until 2028 and includes a €60m release clause. The report states Aston Villa are the club who can carry out the operation ‘without problems’.
Unai Emery is on the lookout for the Spain international as the Villans coach knows his compatriot well from his time with the Yellow Submarine. Baena managed 10 goals and eight assists from 37 games under the Villans manager at Villarreal.
It’s further stated Baena is one of Emery’s weaknesses, and this would be one the reasons Aston Villa could sign him after this season. If there’s a sale, the Yellow Submarine will push to reach the €60m clause mentioned in his contract.
