The Catalan media today shares some strong claims about Aston Villa’s interest in Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo.

Sport writes that Unai Emery and Monchi both want the centre-back signed, and in a recent visit to the La Liga giants side, communicated their intentions.

It’s said the Aston Villa chiefs said they’d like to present a ‘formal offer’ for Araujo in case they got a spot in the Champions League, and that’s what is happening.

Now what needs to be seen is whether the bid will be enough to convince both Barcelona and the player about the move. Despite recent rumours about a €80m attempt, it’s said the English side actually made it clear they wouldn’t be paying that much for the signing.

Aston Villa are said to be confident that Araujo will be available in the market and that they’ll be serious candidates. While they prepare to get him, it’s reported that Diego Carlos’ agent has been told the player can leave this summer.

The Brazilian’s agent is said to be speaking to Premier League clubs to find him a new destination, with Monchi looking ahead for Aston Villa.
