Liverpool have been tracking highly-rated Benfica youngster Henrique Araújo ‘for some time’ but face competition from Manchester City for his signature.
That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who say the forward is one of the options currently being looked at by Barcelona also.
They explain that the 20-year-old has been earning himself plenty of plaudits this season with a series of impressive performances for Benfica’s youth set-up.
That includes a hattrick in the UEFA Youth League final win over RB Leipzig at the end of April, his first goals in the competition.
Those numbers have earned him plenty of admirers, with Barcelona keen and Liverpool and Manchester City said to have been ‘tracking him for some time’.
Unfortunately for them, they will encounter a Benfica side who aren’t interested in losing one of their prized assets.
They ‘have no intention’ of letting the striker leave, particularly as they have just convinced the youngster to sign a new deal at the club until 2024.
Thus, Liverpool and Manchester City would have to dig deep into the pockets to convince them to sell, but it’s not suggested either side are willing to do that as yet.
Barcelona certainly aren’t interested in a ‘big investment’, though, so Mundo suggest a move there is unlikely.
