On Wednesday, we talked about how AC Milan were relying mostly on hope to get a deal done with Everton regarding Gerard Deulofeu, and it seems most of that hope is now resting on the player himself.

Gazzetta dello Sport explained the Serie A side were hopeful they would be able to convince Everton to eventually let their forward join on a loan with an optional view to buy, and Thursday’s edition of the Italian newspaper explains how that’s going to happen.

They report Milan are relying on Deulofeu to act like some sort of director of football, in the sense they need him to put pressure on Everton and convince them him leaving is the right thing to do.

Ronald Koeman made it clear after the 3-0 loss to Southampton that he needed some backing from the owners on the January transfer market, and freeing up some wages by getting rid of Deulofeu until the end of the season could go a long way.

The former Barcelona forward remains AC Milan’s prime objective this transfer window, yet their lack of funds means they are entirely relying on loans to bolster their squad for the second half of the season.
