Hope.

That’s all that’s keeping AC Milan going forward in this transfer market, and most importantly, all they have left when it comes to bringing in Everton’s Gerard Deulofeu on loan.

The Spanish winger, who remains unused in the league by Ronald Koeman since the 10th of December, wants the move, but the Toffees want some money up front for any loan deal.

Milan, whose balance for the January transfer window needs to be €0, cannot comply with those demands right now, and we’re at a bit of a stalemate.

The Italian side’s offer of a loan with an optional clause to buy the forward at the end of the season has been sitting on Koeman’s desk for a few days now, and Gazzetta dello Sport suggest on Wednesday that talks are set to take place in the near future to discuss the matter further.

The pink-paged newspaper claim: “From England arrive encouraging signs for Deulofeu: it will take a few days, but Milan hope to eventually be able to persuade Everton to ‘sell’ the player”.

Considering AC Milan have no money to spend this month, we can only assume that Gazzetta are talking about the summer, following the six month loan, when they write ‘sell’, at which point the takeover from a Chinese investment company will be done and dusted.

Either way, there’s hope. Whether that’s enough, we’ll have to wait and see.
