With Arsenal midfielder Marcelo Flores doing well for Mexico’s youth ranks, there’s interest from the national team to continue having him available in the future.
The 18-year-old can also play for Canada and England, so the more he shows his potential, the bigger the race gets to have him in their teams.
Now according to TUDN, even though Flores is still to make his professional debut for Arsenal, he could already be called up by Mexico’s main squad.
The story says the teenager should be in the list for the friendly match against Chile, which will be played on the 8th of December in the United States.
The London side’s U18 squad have games on the 4th and the 18th of December, so apparently, there’s no reason for the Gunners not to let Flores travel, other than potential new Covid-19 worries.
Just last week, there were claims saying the Mexican national team had doubts about the youngster’s potential, as he was called ‘individualistic’.
Since he could soon be called up by the main squad, those sources were either wrong, or the staff want to guarantee that he plays for Mexico before he chooses another country to represent.
TUDN points out that in case Flores does play a friendly for Mexico, then he still won’t commit his entire future to the country, but would need to wait for three years until he’s called up by another national team.
