Torino are again showing an interest in Celtic defender Jozo Simunovic after their previous attempt to sign the Croatian in the summer. Simunovic is certainly a used member of Brendan Rodgers’ squad, so the manager may think twice about letting him leave Celtic Park in January.
Serie A’s Torino are hoping to bring in a central defender during the next window after Pontus Jansson joined Leeds United and Kamil Glik signed for AS Monaco during the last window. Jansson has excelled at Leeds United under Garry Monk and his loan move looks set to be made permanent soon enough.
It’s claimed the Celtic player had a medical with Torino in the summer, but a deal never happened due to differing opinions on the value of the ex U21 Croatia International. Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers may well be keen to keep hold of Simunovic at least until the end of the season, and Torino will need to do some convincing for the SPL club to let him leave.
Yesterday we covered reports from Italy that Torino are keen on Napoli defender Lorenzo Tonelli, to replace Leeds United’s Jansson.
Jansson doesn’t seem to have a future at Torino, and his loan move to Leeds United can become permanent once he’s played 20 games for the Elland Road club. Jansson has become a cult hero at Leeds United and looks destined to remain in England.
Simunovic may himself want assurances from Torino if he’s to leave Glasgow, feeling there’s no point moving for potentially less football than he gets at celtic under Rodgers.
