It’s been made very clear by quite a few clubs already that none of their players will be leaving in January, unless, of course, irresistible offers come along, but that rarely happens.
June, however, is a completely different kettle of fish, and players who were considered unsellable last year might become available for similar prices due to another year having gone by on their contract.
Good news for Antonio Conte, though, as the player, who has been rumoured as being close to getting a new contract, could be available for that very same price next summer, according to Corriere dello Sport.
Looking at how much the current Lazio team would cost nowadays (€290m) compared to how much they paid for it (€99.7m), the Italian newspaper say that a similar offer to that of the Stamford Bridge contingent’s last summer would be ‘impossible to resist’ for the Serie A side.
Talk of the new contract suggested that a release clause of a similar amount could be included, which would legally be ‘impossible to resist’, and that might be what Corriere are trying to get at.
Lazio aren’t exactly blessed with unlimited funds, and such an offer, for a player whose contract runs out in 2018, would be far too good to turn down.
Either way, it looks like De Vrij could be on his way out next summer.
Where to? That depends who wants him, but Corriere also do mention clubs like Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.
