Barely used by José Mourinho since the start of the Portuguese manager’s reign, Morgan Schneiderlin is becoming a more prominent figure in the transfer market as the January transfer window approaches.
Back in October, the French media suggested the 27-year-old could be a target for Marseille, whose new owners have promised some money to spend this winter, but the likelihood of the defensive midfielder wanting to return to France now seemed unlikely.
One of the clubs thrown into the mix as being possibly interested are Juventus, who, according to Corriere dello Sport, have been looking at the Frenchman as a possible target, but for next summer.
As well as acquiring Axel Witsel, the Serie A side want to bring in another midfielder, and the United player is part of a list of targets, although his transfer is less likely than others.
Corriere state his candidacy for the role is ‘delicate’, suggesting prising him away from Manchester United, or even England, a country he has resided in for over eight years, might be difficult.
The likes of Gladbach’s Mahmoud Dahoud or Schalke’s Leon Goretzka are also in there, as well as Blaise Matuidi and Lyon’s Corentin Tolisso, who was the subject of strong interest from Napoli over the summer.
Unless Mourinho buys a new midfielder in January, the likelihood of Schneiderlin, useful in squad depth, leaving this winter is unlikely, but the summer is a different matter altogether.
If he keeps on being benched or left out of the squad, the former Southampton star might seriously consider looking elsewhere, perhaps maybe even in Italy.
