For Timothy Weah, playing against Celtic in the Europa League last October was a special occasion.
After all, the son of George had spent a few months on loan at Parkhead when he was still at Paris Saint-Germain, during which he made 17 appearances for the Scottish side, scoring four goals and picking up an assist in the process.
Sold to Lille upon his return from Celtic, the United States international unfortunately suffered a serious injury that kept him out for most of the 2019-20 season, only allowing him to truly showcase his talent this campaign under Christophe Galtier.
Taking place in a 3-2 loss to then Neil Lennon’s men, Weah spoke of what went through his mind at that very moment in an interview for his club, relayed by La Voix du Nord.
He said: “I went through very difficult months last season and up to my return. I needed to be very strong mentally, but I was supported by my teammates, the club, supporters and my family. My first goal was strange because I wanted to celebrate it, but then I remembered it was against my old club. I nearly forgot (laughs)”.
