Manchester City hugely celebrated their victory over Barcelona on Tuesday night, which was absolutely fitting.

Spanish newspaper Marca say in their Wednesday edition that Manchester City players celebrated the result as if it were a title win. They don’t mean that as a snipe, and went on to explain just what a leap forward the match was for the club as a whole.

It’s been alleged that after the match one Manchester City player said something to anger Lionel Messi. Things have been blown up in reporting, with The Metro characteristically calling it a ‘brawl’ and some others pushing the boundaries of what the original claims actually said.

It was Cadena Ser’s Larguero programme which broke the claim, and they said in their title that a Manchester City player was involved in a ‘quarrel’ with Messi in the tunnel. In the sub header, that’s stretched to ‘City players (note the plural) insulted Messi’.

In the article it’s stated ‘group of them insulted Leo Messi’, making it sound like the number of Manchester City players is increasing all the time. Messi is then said to have called a Manchester City player a ‘bobo’, which means fool.

Messi, and Barcelona delegate Carles Nadal, then went to the door of the Manchester City dressing room and urged the player to show his face. The superstar’s anger is said to have only calmed down when Sergio Aguero arrived and urged Messi to ‘return to his dressing room to change and take a shower’.

Mundo Deportivo have quoted the Manchester City striker as saying: “I heard something. I saw Leo was angry but I came at the end. I do not know what has happened.”
