Celtic travelled from Glasgow to Germany for what was always going to be a tough away match against Borussia Monchengladbach. Brendan Rodgers’ men had been beaten 2-0 by Gladbach at Celtic Park, so getting anything against the Bundesliga side was always going to be a positive.

Celtic battled back to draw the game 1-1, with Moussa Dembele converting a penalty he won himself, but it wasn’t the only chance Celtic had during the game and under Rodgers this wasn’t a smash and grab operation.

In Germany Gladbach had been expected to win and not doing so now opens up the race for third place, and Europa League qualification. After the match, German newspaper Bild rated the players on both sides, but their system is quite confusing.

Whilst most ratings are out of 10, or sometimes 5, Bild has used the German school grading system to mark Celtic and Gladbach.

1 means very good, 2 is good, 3 is average, 4 is passable but still lacking, 5 is deficient and 6 is insufficient.

No player on the pitch got higher than a 2, but that was awarded to both Moussa Dembele and Scott Sinclair of Celtic.

No Celtic player scored below 4, but Gladbach’s Julian Korb got a 5 after giving away the penalty.

Brendan Rodgers and his Celtic team have managed to increase respect of their capabilities even more so after the positive Manchester City result.

After Celtic’s last away match in the Champions League, against Barcelona, the players were largely hammered in Spain.

Mundo Deportivo said midfielder Scott Brown was ‘dirty’, didn’t understand football, and ‘wanted a pub fight’ instead. Stuart Armstrong was labelled a ‘Lunático’.
