Former Tottenham midfielder Wilson Palacios has admitted he dreamed of playing for bigger clubs than Spurs, but missed out on a move to PSG because of their asking price.
Palacios recently decided to bring his playing days to an end aged 35 after a career that saw him appear for the likes of Wigan, Tottenham and Stoke in the Premier League.
It was his time at White Hart Lane that was arguably his most successful, with him making 86 appearances for the club after joining from Wigan in a £13.5m deal in 2009.
Palacios proved to be a big hit at the club, helping them to reach the Champions League for the first time and reach the quarter-finals the following year.
He, though, admits he always envisioned himself playing at a high level for the likes of Barcelona or Real Madrid.
“I feel like I missed something,” he told Diez.
“My dream was to play for a bigger team than Tottenham, I’m a Madrid fan, my dream was to play for Real Madrid, but I didn’t make it, but I’m satisfied with what I did.”
Palacios’ battling performances at Spurs often saw him linked with moves to other clubs.
Ultimately that never happened, as he later joined Stoke and then headed to America before a short stint with Real Sociedad in Honduras.
Those clubs are a far cry from his dream clubs, although it seems he could have played for a European giant only for Tottenham to block the move.
“I was approached by Paris Saint Germaine who I knew directly were making the offer, but Tottenham were asking for £50m at the time,” he added.
“I had only cost them £14m, and they were asking for more than double, triple what they had invested in me.
“Also Manchester City when I was at Wigan, but Tottenham wanted Carlos Vela, but City got in and said to Tottenham, if you take away Vela, I take away Palacios.”
