On January 28th we covered a claim from Italy that Sebastian Prödl could be on his way from Watford to Udinese. He wasn’t considered a key signing but could still move if circumstances at the end of the window dictated so.
A couple of days later it was reported the 32 year old was closing in on a move to Udinese, without a lot more being added to the story.
The following day, as the deadline moved closer, Watford announced the player’s contract had been terminated by mutual consent.
With both Watford and Udinese being owned by the Pozzo family, there’s often business between them, although this move takes on a slightly different dimension given the contract termination.
TuttoUdinese reports a fear of ‘bureaucratic delays’ was behind the decision to release Prödl, allowing him to then sign for Udinese as a free agent.
He’s expected today for a medical and to sign his contract.
