‘Has Gianluca Di Mazio just linked Edinson Cavani to Leeds United?’

That’s what we thought when we had a quick read of the journalist’s latest story on the Uruguayan striker, who could soon be departing from Paris Saint German.

And it turns out that yes, it’s claimed that the Elland Road side are one of the clubs who have recently ‘sought’ Cavani.

Leeds are along with LA Galaxy in the list of clubs who wanted to sign the Uruguayan star, but, perhaps unsurprisingly, he should be heading somewhere else, as he’s reportedly found an agreement with Atletico Madrid instead.

Gianluca Di Marzio says the Spanish club should now start their operation for the signing. They should first speak to PSG and see if it’s possible to buy him in January, six months before the end of his contract.

Otherwise they can wait and sign him for free in the summer.

Atletico Madrid would have to sell a few players so they can afford Cavani’s huge wages, and only then give the striker the three-year contract that is waiting for him.

If Atletico are struggling to pay him, then it makes it even less likely Leeds United would have been able to convince.
