Manchester City will look to bring Domènec Torrent back to the club should Mikel Arteta leave to take the Arsenal job.

Arteta is currently among the favourites to replace Unai Emery, having been in the running before the Spaniard was appointed as Arsene Wenger’s successor back in 2018.

Should he depart the Emirates it would leave Manchester City on the hunt for a new assistant manager and Torrent is the one they have targeted.

That’s according to Sport, who say Pep Guardiola ‘bets on the return’ of his former assistant, who worked under him at Barcelona, Bayern and indeed Manchester City.

Torrent is currently out of work after leaving MLS side New York City and has previously made it clear he would return to Manchester should Guardiola make the call.

That could happen with a source close to the club telling Sport: “Pep would ask Domènec to return, because he was here for the first two years and knows the team perfectly inside and out, and he is very popular.”

A return will be dependant on Arteta departing, with Sport stating that his move to the Emirates is ‘likely’ at this stage.

That feels more like a guess based on the speculation, but it seems if there is any movement, City have a plan in place to ensure there is minimal disruption as a result.
