Earlier this summer, multiple reports in Italy discussed AS Roma’s interest in Dejan Lovren.
However, the deal didn’t take shape as TuttoMercatoWeb reported the Liverpool defender demanded a €1m signing on fee from the Serie A side.
Roma have since signed Chris Smalling on loan from Manchester United.
On August 21st, Sport Bild reported Bayer Leverkusen see the 30-year-old as a ‘big solution’ to strengthen their defence and it was also explained the Reds have given permission to the defender to leave the club.
Lovren is still at Anfield, where he is the fourth choice central defender behind Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip and Joe Gomez. Jurgen Klopp has not included the former in any of the matchday squads this season.
Croatian newspaper 24Sata explains Lovren has been at the exit door ‘all summer’, but is yet to find a club.
As of today, he is closest to Leverkusen and the ex-Southampton man’s signing would be a ‘big boost’ for the Bundesliga side.
It remains to be seen if Lovren can find a new club before the window closes later today.
