In a rather surprising turn of events, Chelsea have decided the centre-back they want to improve Antonio Conte’s defence is an old pupil of theirs.

After vague mentions on Tuesday night that a deal for David Luiz could be in the making, it all took off on Wednesday as both clubs seem to have agreed on a transfer for the Brazilian football player.

According to RMC’s Mohamed Bouhafsi, the deal will add up to around €40m + bonuses, which is a bit less than what Paris Saint-Germain paid for him in the first place.

Le Parisien claim on their website that David Luiz took a train to London on Wednesday afternoon in order to complete his transfer back to Stamford Bridge and to pass a medical.

They also explain that when Unai Emery was appointed as the new manager, the former Sevilla coach told Luiz he wouldn’t be top of the pecking order alongside Thiago Silva, seemingly replaced by Marquinhos.

The player’s entourage also told the French newspaper he wanted to leave Paris Saint-Germain the summer.

He’s seemingly got his wish, and to a club he already knows well.
