The technical manager of PEC Zwolle has told the Dutch media they wanted to sign Nottingham Forest forward Lars Veldwijk in this window. The Dutchman spent last season on loan with PEC after failing to a make an impact since joining Nottingham Forest

Speaking to Voetbal Primeur, Gerard Nijkamp said they haven’t spoken to Veldwijk this summer, but they realised the deal would be financially difficult. Nijkamp revealed PEC’s hopes of landing their dream target failed not because of the player, but more to do with Nottingham Forest. The PEC boss said in the end they couldn’t wait any long in their pursuit of Veldwijk.

“We have not yet had contact with Lars, but it turns out to be a financially difficult story. This has nothing to do with Lars, I must say, but that has more to do with Nottingham Forrest. You need to focus what you have within your power and I could not run the risk of waiting for Lars,” said Nijkamp.

Veldwijk joined Nottingham Forest in 2014 from Dutch side Excelsior, but the 25-year-old has played just 12 league games for the club. The attacker has also been linked with a move to Dutch side ADO Den Haag this week.
