If Corriere dello Sport are to be believed, then Milan have made their mind up when it comes to the type of player they want to recruit, and it isn’t youth.
Over the past week or so, a number of reports in the Italian press suggested the Serie A side were torn between making a move for either Chelsea’s Andreas Christensen or Gary Cahill.
The Italian side are in desperate need of depth in all three areas of their squad, and a trio of signings were being touted for January, including potentially two arriving from Stamford Bridge.
With Cesc Fabregas costing a little bit too much (€12m), there’s talk of Milan moving on from the Spaniard and trying for Denis Suarez instead, but, in defence, it seems they’ve set their sight on Gary Cahill.
Corriere explain it’s believed the club will go for ‘experience and personality’ to help in their goal of qualifying for the Champions League next season, having moved into the top four over the weekend with their win over Parma.
As things stand, Gary Cahill has featured just 21 minutes for Chelsea in the Premier League, and a move to a club who would be willing to play him semi-regularly in 2019 will be high on his Christmas wishlist.
A lot will depend on Maurizio Sarri and what he has planned, but with far more cover at centre-back than in midfield, perhaps he’ll be more inclined to let the veteran defender go than he is Fabregas.
