Marouane Fellaini and Ander Herrera leaving Manchester United in 2019, coupled with the decision to not replace them has left Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with limited options in the centre of the pitch following injuries to Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay.

Nemanja Matić’s contract at Old Trafford expires in 2020 and the Red Devils have an option to further extend it by a year. However, several reports have suggested the former Chelsea man could leave the club in January or at the end of the season.

FcInterNews report Solskjaer’s side will need a high-profile midfielder and they say Arturo Vidal could be a target for United.

The Chilean is frustrated with his limited role at Barcelona and has communicated the same to his agent Fernando Felicevich. Subsequently, his representative will evaluate the situation and see if an exit is possible in the winter market.

It’s claimed United have contacted Vidal’s agent in recent days and Felicevich’s ‘very good’ relationship with Ed Woodward (because of Alexis Sánchez’s deal) could facilitate a transfer.

Vidal’s first preference would be to play under his former manager Antonio Conte at Inter Milan. The player remains the first choice for the Nerazzurri boss.

If Felicevich convinces Barca to let go of their client, then negotiations could commence with Inter. Giuseppe Marotta’s idea is to take him on loan with a right to make it permanent, but the Catalan club would prefer to sell.

Barcelona value him in the region of €15m, but negotiations can start from €10-12m.
