Wolverhampton Wanderers are once again being linked with Corinthians striker Yuri Alberto, according to a report from CNN in Brazil.
The 23-year-old is attracting interest from both Wolves and Sporting CP, but it is the Premier League side who could benefit from a personal connection.
Their current manager, Vítor Pereira, was in charge of Corinthians in 2022 and played a key role in Yuri Alberto’s arrival at the club that year.
In an interview given to Placar magazine in December 2024, Yuri reflected on Pereira’s importance in his early days at Corinthians. “When we came to Corinthians, he was someone who showed a lot of interest,” he said. “His style of play matched mine a lot. When I got here, it all flowed very well. It was incredible. Corinthians then signed me permanently.”
However, the striker also admitted Pereira’s abrupt departure to Flamengo in the following season had a strong impact. “It felt like a stab in the back, you know? I believe if he had stayed, 2023 could have been different. But I still have a lot of respect and affection for him.”
Wolves reportedly submitted a bid for Yuri Alberto in late 2023, but Corinthians turned it down. Although the player is under contract until December 2027, the club has yet to open talks over a possible renewal.
Yuri Alberto has made 184 appearances and scored 70 goals for Corinthians. He is also the all-time top scorer at the Neo Química Arena, with 45 goals.
Whether Wolves will return with a fresh offer remains to be seen, but with Vítor Pereira keen on strengthening his squad and a strong past connection with the player, the possibility is firmly on the table.
