Ajax are aiming to strengthen their midfield in the winter market and have had Tottenham Hotspur’s Pierre-Emile Højbjerg in their target list.
Today’s Algemeen Dagblad states Ajax have had the Tottenham player in the picture but are unlikely to take further steps to secure his services.
The report claims the Denmark international is ‘unattainable’ for the Eredivisie side, but provide no further explanation on why they can’t get the deal done for him this month.
Højbjerg has seen his game time limited under Ange Postecoglou this season. He’s made 19 league appearances but most of those were as a substitute.
The midfielder’s situation at Tottenham has seen him linked with a few Italian clubs and Ajax. The latter have now closed the door for him.
AD add Ajax have now shifted their focus to former Liverpool star Jordan Henderson and hope to secure his services. The Englishman left the Reds for Al-Ettifaq last summer and has submitted a request to leave the Saudi Arabian club.
Ajax likely hit a financial block with Pierre-Emile Højbjerg, given the terms Tottenham would want and also the player’s wages. The midfielder probably also wants to play in a more high profile league.
