Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface is ‘very popular’ at Newcastle United, and they are ‘intensifying’ talks to sign him.
That’s according to Africa Foot, who report that Newcastle want the striker for next season and are working on a deal.
According to their information, Boniface is on Newcastle’s radar, and they have been in negotiations for him with Bayer Leverkusen for several weeks. Talks have also been held with the player’s representatives.
They state that the various parties have managed to reach agreements at around 69%. So, there is some way still to go but negotiations are nearly three quarters of the way done.
The same sources for Africa Foot state that Bayer Leverkusen are demanding €50m for the striker. That, though, poses no problem for Newcastle, who are expected to pay this sum ‘very soon’ to finalise the deal. A five-year deal is waiting for the player.
There’s no mention of whether Boniface would arrive to play with Alexander Isak or as his replacement.
We’ll take the report with a pinch of salt given the source and the fact that Boniface has been linked with Newcastle for some time without anything ever really advancing.
We would also point out, though, that there’s been plenty of talk of Leverkusen planning to sell at least one striker this summer and Boniface being the preferred candidate so there is that to consider.
Boniface is undoubtedly a name to keep an eye on this summer, but whether it’s Newcastle leading the race for him remains to be seen.
