Middlesbrough have received encouragement to sign Otto Rosengren, after the Malmö FF player said he’s open to a transfer.
Four days ago, Sport Witness covered claims from Sweden that Boro and 1. FC Köln want to sign him this summer.
Middlesbrough have contacted his agent, and the Swedish club would be in line to receive a ‘large transfer fee’.
Middlesbrough target confirms interest
The Swede has confirmed interest from elsewhere, without revealing whether it’s from the Championship side or other clubs, and Fotbollskanalen have relayed his comments.
Otto Rosengren says he will consider a move if there’s something concrete.
“Nothing concrete right now so I’m focusing on Malmö and the next match against Kalmar. I’m here and now, and I think it’s really fun to be here. Then I want to continue on the winning track,” he said.
“Of course, if something concrete and interesting comes up, we’ll take it from there.”
Advantage of joining Middlesbrough
In November, the English club appointed Kim Hellberg as their manager, and the Swede’s compatriots have followed him to the Riverside Stadium.
This includes David Selini, Anes Mravac [both assistants] and goalkeeping coach Linus Kandolin.
Otto Rosengren believes having a Swedish set-up at Middlesbrough would help him settle in quickly if he were to join them.
“It goes without saying that it would help to have Swedish coaches if you move abroad,” Rosengren explained.
Middlesbrough will aim to return to the Premier League, after missing out on promotion last season. 1. FC Köln are in the Bundesliga and this could give them a huge advantage over Boro, especially because the 23-year-old dreams of playing in Germany’s top flight.
“I think the German league would have suited me well. It is clear that it is a step you dream of, moving abroad. That is how it is for most players,” he added.
Hellberg and his coaching staff have to convince the midfielder, if Boro are to sign him this summer.
Rosengren has a goal and three assists from 11 matches for Malmö FF this year.
