Leeds United defender Sebastiaan Bornauw is firmly on HSV Hamburg’s list of options as they look to replace Luka Vuskovic.
BILD report the German side are in talks with Leeds to sign the defensive ‘leader’ to replace the former Tottenham loanee.

The newspaper follows reports from yesterday explaining that HSV are on the hunt for defensive addition this summer.
They stated that sporting director Claus Costa is current ‘making phone calls almost constantly’ as he seeks reinforcements for his side.
The Hamburg club are eager to sign a new ‘defensive leader’ and have set their sights on Sebastiaan Bornauw as a result. The 27-year-old is seen as an ideal candidate thanks to his ‘wealth of experience’.
He also speaks fluent German and is regarded as a ‘strong centre-back and organiser’. As reports yesterday stated, he is currently the leading candidate for the Bundesliga side. They have a ‘select group’ of candidates in mind but the 27-year-old would be the preferred option.
Loan is the preferred transfer option
Hamburger Morgenpost say similar. According to their information, it is no coincidence that links to the Leeds defender are now emerging.
Manager Merlin Polzin promised at least on more signing on Tuesday afternoon. Links to potential names did not take long to follow.
The newspaper states that while things are not heating up quite yet, reports regarding Sebastiaan Bornauw are ‘by no means baseless’. The Leeds United defender is very much on the club’s shortlist.
Talks are now continuing on several fronts, including for the 27-year-old. A deal is not yet imminent as the various parties try to work out the best deal. HSV are limited financially and his €8m valuation is seen as a problem at this point. A loan deal, like the one for Vuskovic, ‘could be the outcome’ this summer.
That, though, would take talks with Leeds and convincing them. Daniel Farke’s side are likely to prefer a permanent exit for a defender who does not feature in the German’s plans. HSV, it seems, are working to try and make a deal happen somehow but the feeling is that it may take some time to come to fruition.
