Sunderland have not yet abandoned their deal for Toulouse defender Dayann Methalie, despite issues emerging during a medical this week.
RMC Sport report that the defender is set to undergo further tests after a back issue was detected during a medical at Sunderland.
Medical causes Sunderland pause
Sport Witness covered reports yesterday explaining that Sunderland were threatening to back out of a deal for the 20-year-old after discovering a back issue during his medical at the Stadium of Light.
RMC now provide more details. They explain that Dayann Methalie is set to undergo further tests after the discovery of that back issue.
The deal to take him to Sunderland is currently on hold as a result. They had previously reached an agreement with Toulouse for a deal worth €30m.
But that deal is now on pause because of the medical issue. RMC, though, insist that the transfer ‘has not been abandoned’ by Sunderland yet.
Toulouse insistence
Instead, Methalie has been sent back to Toulouse for additional medical checks. Toulouse believe that the back issue is not serious enough to jeopardise the agreement reached with Sunderland.
Instead, they want to carry out further tests to ‘determine the nature and severity’ of what they describe as a ‘discomfort’.
The €30m offer, plus bonuses, is still on the table. That agreement was struck over the weekend, and the French side are keen to stick to it.
The player, for his part, was ‘won over’ by Sunderland’s proposal and a five-year contract is waiting for him. That was ‘on the verge of being signed’ according to RMC. Now, the transfer is on hold until further tests take place.
As far at Toulouse are concerned, the issue detected does not call into question the agreement with Sunderland. The Black Cats, though, clearly feel differently and want further medical evidence before proceeding.
