Aston Villa‘s Matty Cash suffered an injury in Poland’s 1-0 UEFA Nations League defeat to Bosnia and Herzegovina on Monday.
The right-back has cemented his place under Unai Emery and his performances for Aston Villa helped him return to the national team. He went a year without featuring for Poland before returning in March 2025.
Cash has been a regular since then and started in all four UEFA Nations League matches in September and October.
He played the full 90 minutes once, and it was during the goalless draw against Bosnia at home in September. Manager Jan Urban started him for the fourth consecutive match at Bilino Polje on Monday.
The fullback was on the pitch for 63 minutes and an injury forced him off. Jagiellonia Białystok’s Norbert Wojtuszek came on to replace him.
Injured Aston Villa player awaiting tests results
Matty Cash suffered the blow a few minutes before the hour’s mark when he ‘had been hit quite hard in the left thigh’.
The Aston Villa player needed medical attention and WP SportoweFakty states it’s because the ‘pain was so severe’. However, the attention was ineffective, meaning there was no chance for him to continue.
Therefore, Poland manager Jan Urban replaced the 29-year-old with Norbert Wojtuszek. Jacek Jaroszewski, the national team doctor, assisted the player in getting off the pitch.
The outlet adds it’s too early to determine the severity of his setback. The defender will carry out tests, and the results should provide clarity about the damage.
Anxious wait for Aston Villa
Last November, he struggled with an injury while on international duty but didn’t miss any fixtures for the Villans.
Unai Emery’s side will be anxiously awaiting these results to find out whether Matty Cash will be out for a while.
The Europa League winners have a busy schedule after this international break. They have seven matches this month, starting with Brentford’s visit to Villa Park on Saturday.
Cash has made five appearances this season and the Aston Villa manager can only hope he has suffered a minor injury.
In the event of a spell on the sidelines, Emery can rely upon summer signing, Aaron Wan-Bissaka. He joined the Villans from West Ham United on loan with an obligation to buy.
