Manchester City can be option for Girona’s Azzedine Ounahi in the summer window.
The City Football Group own Manchester City, who also own Troyes and have stakes at Girona.
Manchester City used the CFG connection to sign Savinho from Troyes in July 2024, after a season on loan at Girona.
On April 27th, Sport Witness covered claims from Spain that the Premier League side want to repeat the Savinho formula to sign Ounahi. The same source also reported the latter is likely to leave after this season.
Manchester City option discussed
Girona finished this season in 19th spot, a point behind 17th placed CA Osasuna.
Wednesday’s edition of Sport report Girona have to sell some of their stars to offset the impact of the relegation.
The Spanish club will have to sell some to raise funds and this is also needed to plan their return to La Liga.
Azzedine Ounahi is in the transferable list. His immediate focus will be on the World Cup with Morocco.
The 26-year-old has already attracted interest from Spain and England. There’s been talks of Manchester City before Girona’s relegation.
If the midfielder were to impress at the World Cup, his club can rub their hands. Ounahi has a contract until 2030, and it gives his side leverage to demand more money from his suitors.
The newspaper makes no mention of the La Liga side’s demand or the minimum fee needed to convince them.
Online, Sport further add the Etihad club were looking at him as Bernardo Silva’s potential successor. The Portugal international has already announced he will leave the Citizens when his contract expires on June 30th.
To sum it up, Manchester City have been an option for the player. Girona’s relegation from La Liga now provides the English club encouragement to make advances to sign him.
