Glasgow Rangers have ‘entered the fray’ for ESTAC Troyes youngster Sankhoun Diawara and are closely monitoring the 20-year-old’s situation.

Foot Mercato report that Rangers are the latest to show an interest in the centre-back, who has already been targeted by Basel.

Rangers enter the fray

The website explains that Sankhoun Diawara was the standout performer for the French side in the second half of last season. That’s led to a possible departure this summer, despite their promotion to Ligue 1.

FC Basel have made the youth international one of their top priorities. In fact, they are advancing towards a deal for the youngster and have made significant progress on that front in the last few hours.

However, they are no longer the only club in the race. Rangers have also entered the fray and are closely monitoring the defender’s situation this summer. Journalist Santi Aouna adds that Rangers have presented an ambitious project to the defener.

Troyes, for their part, are still hoping to persuade the player to extending his stay. He’s been with the French side since 2020, when he was just 14 years old. He’s since player through the levels in their youth system and for the B team before moving into the first team last year.

Contract expires in 2027

But his current deal expires next summer. Troyes would like to extend that but for the time being, he has shown no intention of signing a new deal at the club. He is aware that he could take his career to the next level with a move this summer.

Whether Basel or Rangers can convince him to leave, remains to be seen. Foot Mercato make no mention of an asking price at this point. He is currently rated at €2m but both clubs may try to push hard on that figure given his expiring contract.

The Swiss side are currently in front and advancing their negotiations, but Rangers apparent interest could change that quickly.
