A couple of days ago, Sport Witness explained West Ham were accepting something of a structured loss in Luis Guilherme’s move to Sporting CP.

Whilst on the face of it, the Hammers were making a loss on the amount they paid, a capital – or accounting after amortisation – loss had been avoided. West Ham would be receiving €14m plus a further €3m in potential bonus payments.

Sporting are also happy with the deal, hoping they can go on to make a big profit from the 19-year-old in future.

Crucially, on top of this initial €17m package, West Ham had secured a percentage of a future sale. Given how good Sporting are at developing players, this was seen as a great addition to the deal.

However, the percentage amount wasn’t initially clear.

Monday’s edition of Record features Luis Guilherme on their front page. Sporting took the player down to the beach for his welcome photographs, quite the change from London.

The percentage has now been revealed… and the Hammers have secured 15%. That’s reasonable, given such amounts usually range from 15-20%.

Portuguese football authorities ban contracts over five years. Therefore, the Brazilian has signed up for four and a half, which may encourage a quicker exit.

Luis Guilherme sounds thrilled with the move: “I’m really very happy, very fulfilled. I hope I can help our team as much as possible. I’ve arrive at a gigantic club.”

Sporting have put an €80m release clause in the player’s contract.
