Galatasaray manager Okan Buruk has told the German media he thinks İlkay Gündoğan will remain at Manchester City.

The Super Lig side have been linked with the German in recent weeks, with reports he was close to arriving in Istanbul.

However, Buruk has played down these claims and has indicated to Sky.de he believes the central midfielder will see out his Manchester City contract.

The Gala coach went on to say Gündoğan is a player he admires and that the 34-year-old has genuine feelings for the Istanbul side.

“İlkay Gündoğan is a person with character. He has a contract with Manchester City for another year, and I think he will complete it there. We love Ilkay very much, we know that he has a great love for Galatasaray,” said Buruk.

Only last week there were reports in the Turkish press that Gündoğan had agreed personal terms with Galatasaray and that he would receive an annual salary of €6m.

However, his agent was quick to play down these rumours and stated they didn’t have an agreement with Cimbom nor had they held official transfer talks with any Super Lig club.

Gündoğan made 54 appearances for Manchester City last season and is contracted to the Premier League side until June 2026.
