Nottingham Forest have made rapid advances to sign Liverpool‘s Curtis Jones.
Inter Milan wanted to sign the midfielder in the winter market, but Liverpool refused to sanction a move.
That didn’t put off the Serie A winners from pursuing the Liverpool player this summer. On July 1st, Sport Witness covered claims from Italy that Nottingham Forest joined the race to sign him.
Nottingham Forest get ahead of Inter Milan
Nerazzurri sporting director Piero Ausilio has recently confirmed their interest in the 25-year-old. However, there’s been no progress yet because of the difference in valuation between the two clubs.
He said: “…right now there’s a significant gap between our assessments and Liverpool’s. Since he’s a Liverpool player, they have every right to ask for what they legitimately want, but we have every right to decide whether we’re happy with that or not, so right now I’d say it’s a very difficult move.”
The England international has less than a year left on his contract at Liverpool and has no plans to sign an extension.
Two days ago, we relayed news that he wants to join Inter Milan, who are unwilling to meet Liverpool’s €35m price.
Cristian Chivu’s side also have to get rid of some of the existing midfielders to make room for Curtis Jones. None of this has happened so far.
Oliver Glasner’s side have taken advantage of the Inter Milan impasse to snatch him from their clutches.
In fact, Nottingham Forest have now taken the lead and are close to securing his services.
Liverpool player close to Nottingham Forest
That’s according to Saturday’s edition of Corriere dello Sport, who share a short update on a report focusing on Anan Khalaili’s impending arrival at the San Siro. The Liverpool player is now ‘closer to joining’ Nottingham Forest.
The Italian champions will miss out on Curtis Jones as the newspaper claims Liverpool have reached an agreement with the City Ground club.
That’s all Corriere say about the midfielder and Nottingham Forest. This will force the Italian champions to look elsewhere.
There’s no mention of a fee and it needs to be seen whether the UK media will back up or dismiss this claim.
