Harvey Elliott’s first few weeks away from Liverpool weren’t really straightforward, but things are looking a little brighter for him at Valencia.
At the end of September, we covered concerns in Spain about the midfielder’s physical condition. He had arrived at Valencia without a proper pre-season and above his ideal playing weight. That left the Liverpool loanee playing catch-up from the beginning.
Now there are some more positive signs around Elliott, this time concerning his adaptation to life in Spain.
Elliott settling into Valencia life
Radio Marca Valencia have shared an update on the 23-year-old and how he’s getting on away from the pitch.
They explain Elliott is adapting to his new surroundings and has now started driving by himself in Spain.
That apparently required a little work. Elliott initially travelled to training alongside a Valencia employee as he got used to driving on the other side of the road. Roundabouts and having the steering wheel on the opposite side were particular difficulties. He’s now comfortable enough to make those journeys alone.
The Liverpool man has also been taking Spanish lessons for several weeks, another indication he’s making an effort to settle properly at Valencia.
They’re small details, obviously, but fairly encouraging ones after the concerns surrounding his first weeks at the club.

A better direction for the Liverpool loanee

This international break was effectively presented as another pre-season for the midfielder.
Well, it was smart choice considering his difficult start and Valencia’s investment in him. Of course, they’re covering almost all of his Liverpool-level salary, making him one of their highest earners.
So, after highlighting the negatives a couple of weeks ago, it’s only fair to highlight the positives as well.
Elliott appears to be putting the work in to make Valencia feel like home. He’s learning the language and has overcome one of those mundane but very real challenges of moving abroad.
Now he needs the football side to follow. Getting himself fully fit and earning regular minutes remains the bigger task. At least away from the pitch, though, things appear to be moving in the right direction.
