Brighton loanee Evan Ferguson has faced his fair share of struggles during his ongoing loan at AS Roma. Form, fitness, media, he’s certainly been on an Italian journey.

Nottingham Forest are now emerging as a possible destination for the striker.

Back in December, Corriere dello Sport claimed that the Irishman was leaving many annoyed in Rome.

He had agreed to play for Ireland despite an injury and it was claimed he’d repeatedly returned for club duties overweight.

There were also question marks about his suitability within Gian Piero Gasperini’s system. That’s no great slight against Ferguson, with many players having struggled to give the manager what he wants.

Things have improved on the pitch for the 21-year-old since then, and he now has three Serie A goals. That might not be enough for him to stay in the Italian capital.

Gazzetta dello Sport today report that Nottingham Forest, Real Betis and Napoli are interested in the striker. If he returns to Brighton, those clubs will attempt to land Ferguson.

Rome, Italy September 21, 2025: Matias Soule, Evan Ferguson of Roma celebrate victory 1-0 at end of the Serie A Enilive 2025-2026 football derby match SS Lazio and AS Roma at Olympic Stadium. Nottingham Forest target not looking too out of shape.

Roma could be forced to part ways with the player. They are still looking to sign Manchester United’s Joshua Zirkzee and need an exit to bring the Dutchman to the Stadio Olimpico.

Initially, Artem Dovbyk was being offered around to clubs. He could have helped Roma earn significant funds but an injury means that a January departure is very unlikely. As a result, Ferguson can now become the casualty.

Gasperini has been vocal about the need for quality additions to his side. This has been forcing the Giallorossi into action, with deals for Donyell Malen and Robinho Vaz all but done. This may not be enough for the Roma manager, as they lost to Torino in the Coppa Italia on Tuesday.

Nottingham Forest have an opportunity, with Sean Dyche’s side struggling for goals this season.
