Nottingham Forest are taking a careful approach to the injury and recovery of goalkeeper John, who is following an intense rehabilitation programme after knee surgery earlier this month.
His unfortunate setback came on January 3rd, just after he had secured the starting role between the posts. His performances had drawn attention from Brazil, leading to recent call-ups under Carlo Ancelotti.
Speaking to Brazilian outlet Globo Esporte, the goalkeeper explained the decision to undergo surgery. “We could have managed without the procedure, but it could have become much worse later,” he said. “We chose this option to fix it properly and return at 100%.”
He added that the recent call-ups reinforced his World Cup ambitions. “Now it is about taking each day as a step on that path. I believe in my dedication and I am putting my whole soul into it.”
The Brazilian suffered a small cartilage injury to his left knee in early January. Because of that, Nottingham Forest decided to proceed with a preventative arthroscopic procedure on January 14th. The club took that step to reduce the risk of future issues and allow a quicker recovery.
Since then, the goalkeeper has kept a demanding routine split into three daily treatment sessions. According to Globo Esporte, he spends the full day working at Forest’s training ground and continues his recovery at home in the evenings. The medical staff carry out weekly assessments and have not yet set a definitive return date.
Nottingham Forest return treated with patience
Even so, the current outlook suggests John could restart physical preparation in the second week of February. That would coincide with six weeks since the surgery. He will undergo another medical evaluation this weekend, which should clarify the next stage of the process.
For Nottingham Forest, his recovery remains a key storyline as the season moves on, with the goalkeeper fully focused on returning at full capacity.
