It’s been a while since Newcastle United’s interest in Santos striker Marcos Leonardo stopped being mentioned by the Brazilian media, and Globo Esporte now feature a story about that.

The outlet writes that European interest in the centre-forward has gone lower lately, even though his January transfer is still a big topic.

Marcos Leonardo had a drop in form in the final months of the Brazilian season, and that’s one of the factors which led Santos to being relegated to the second division.

Globo Esporte recalls that Newcastle ‘signalled their interest’ in his signing, but points out that the Peixe have not received an official bid yet.

Since the striker is Santos’ biggest hope of a good sale, they’ll try to make at least €18m with the transfer.

It’s said Marcos Leonardo’s wish to move to Europe is ‘clear’, and people who take care of his career are ‘confident’ that a transfer will happen in January.

We’d say that due to the lack of competitors, Newcastle should even get a chance to find a discount for the centre-forward, but we shall see whether their interest in the signing remains.
