New midfield target for Newcastle United
As per Foot Mercato, the Magpies have identified the Denmark international as a new target and are showing ‘concrete interest’.
The Ligue 1 side are facing restrictions, forcing them to raise funds and lower their wage bill by offloading some of their players this summer.
Pierre-Emile Højbjerg is likely to pack his bags. Newcastle United, who are an option, have identified him as an ideal candidate to replace Bruno Guimarães.
He previously played in the Premier League with Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur. This, coupled with the 31-year-old’s overall experience, has convinced the Tyneside club to bet on him. In fact, they are ‘eager to quickly secure his services’.
Wilson leading Newcastle United negotiations
Magpies sporting director Ross Wilson is directly handling this deal. He wants to capitalise on Pierre-Emile Højbjerg’s experience to hand new manager Matthias Jaissle a quality midfielder.
