Gençlerbirliği defender Ousmane Diabate has a four year – with the option of another – in place and ready to sign at Newcastle United.

Journalist Reşat Can Özbudak provides details of the 18-year-old’s impending move to St James Park today.

Newcastle in surprise move

Sport Witness covered a report earlier today explaining that Newcastle were finalising a deal with the Gençlerbirliği defender. He was even travelling to the North East for a medical and to finalise the surprise transfer.

That deal has caught may off guard, with the Turkish media far ahead of the English as Newcastle look set to add yet another youngster to their squad this summer.

Özbudak now provides even more details. He explains that Diabate has already agreed a four-year deal at St James Park. That will also include the option of another year.

The plan is for him to join Newcastle then return to Gençlerbirliği on a season-long loan deal. however, the loan deal will include a mid-season recall clause.

He also states that if the defender continue to play, Gençlerbirliği will earn a bonus from the loan deal. It’s not made explicitly clear what this means, though. The likelihood is that the loan deal contains a clause regarding playing time and minutes.

After all, it would make little sense for Newcastle to send Ousmane Diabate to the Turkish club this summer if it wasn’t the best for his development.

It is likely why the deal includes a mid-season recall option too. The Magpies can assess the situation in January and decide what they want to do at that point.

The youngster is the latest signing as part of a rebuild focused on youth this summer. the 18-year-old joins Bazoumana Toure (20), Aladji Bamba (20), Sean Steur (18) and Ewen Jaouen (20) in being targeted as the Magpies decide to head in a brand-new direction under Matthias Jaissle.
