Petar Sucic did well in his first season at Inter Milan and has now attracted interest from Newcastle United and Leeds United.
The Croatian signed for the Nerazzurri initially in January 2025 but joined their squad in the summer. In the 2025/26 campaign, he played 34 times in Serie A, featuring ten times in the Champions League, scoring against Arsenal in the group stages.
This has coincided with his rise within the Croatian national team setup. He played at the World Cup, particularly impressing in the loss against Portugal.
With the player’s reputation growing, Newcastle United and Leeds United have stepped forward for the midfielder.
Inter keen on keeping him
Today’s Corriere dello Sport reports the 22-year-old’s World Cup performances have helped his profile rise. It hasn’t gone unnoticed, with English clubs particularly attentive to his situation.
As a result, both Newcastle United and Leeds United have ‘tested the waters’ for his signature. The clubs have clarified a willingness to pay as much as €35m to €40m to land the Croatia man.
But Inter have closed the door on the move. They have ‘complete faith’ in Sucic and want to see him become an even more important player next season.
Manager Cristian Chivu believes the midfielder has a lot of room to grow. He is confident Sucic will take another step forward next season, with Henrikh Mkhitaryan now approaching 40 and Hakan Calhanoglu approaching 35.
The player is focused on Inter, having returned from his post-World Cup vacations this week.
Our take: Sucic will only grow
It is a positive that Newcastle United and Leeds United have identified the Croatian’s abilities early on. There is every chance he gets better, having shown signs of inconsistency in the 2025/26 campaign.
Once he gets better, Sucic would want guaranteed European football. At that point, his value will increase further and more clubs will come calling for him.
This would only complicate the task of the two English clubs, who may not have a chance at signing Sucic in the future. Now would be the time.
