Earlier today, Gianluca Di Marzio reported AC Milan were growing in confidence regarding a move for Liverpool’s Joe Gomez.

The Rossoneri’s move for the defender depended largely on the Reds landing Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi, and positive developments were expected on this front.

It now seems like Liverpool are increasingly close to keeping the centre-back.

Gazzetta dello Sport’s Luca Bianchin reports the 28-year-old’s move to Milan has temporarily stalled.

This is because Liverpool are yet to make progress in a move for Guehi and are holding off Gomez’s transfer to Milan.

Despite this, the Italian side continue to try. They were initially expected to receive positive updates but everything has gone quiet.

Gomez remains Milan’s chosen option to improve their backline, with Manuel Akanji having rejected a move to the San Siro.

Gazzetta have previously indicated that Milan value the centre-back at €15m, but Liverpool are likely to demand over €20m, with Gomez currently only in favour of a permanent sale.

Gomez has made two Premier League appearances so far this season.
