Middlesbrough are close to finalising a deal for Troyes midfielder Abdoulaye Kanté, with a deal in the final stages.

That’s according to Foot Mercato, who report that there is a feeling at the French side that the 20-year-old’s time at the club is coming to an end.

They explain that it was hard to see Kanté staying at the club this summer after establishing himself as a revelation at Troyes in recent months.

According to FM’s information, the former Montfermeil player is close to joining Middlesbrough in a deal worth around €3m. It will be the latest profit for the French club, who received €9.4m from Bryan Mbeumo’s move to Manchester United.

Certain details still need to be resolved on the matter but there is a belief it’s in the final stages, nonetheless.

The midfielder would become Middlesbrough’s first permanent signing of the summer, with their current arrivals all players returning from loan at present.

They do have some money to spend after selling Josh Cobun to Millwall in a €6.4m deal and perhaps they’re using some of those funds to secure the 20-year-old’s signature.
