Antonio Conte is keen on landing the Manchester United job as the Premier League side continue to struggle under Michael Carrick this season.

Carrick, who took charge in January, helped Manchester United return to the Champions League. However, the Red Devils have struggled under his orders this season, both in terms of performances and results.

The Old Trafford club have one league win after six matches, leaving them 13th in the table. Brighton & Hove Albion have knocked them out of the EFL Cup.

In the Champions League, the English club secured a win over Sabah and suffered a 2-0 defeat to Atlético Madrid on Tuesday. They’ve scored 14 goals from nine matches and nine of those goals were against Ipswich Town and Sabah.

Carrick under pressure at Manchester United

The Red Devils, who have only two wins this season, have gone without a win for over a month. Their last victory was against Sabah on September 10th.

With the poor start, including the EFL Cup elimination, Michael Carrick is under pressure. That will only increase if Manchester United don’t end their winless streak soon. Meanwhile, Antonio Conte is ready to replace him.

Two days ago, Sport Witness covered a report from Italy explaining that Conte would gladly accept a call from the English club. There was also a talk of the parties reaching an agreement.

The 57-year-old has been without a club since leaving Napoli at the end of last season. In his two-year spell with the Naples club, he won the title and the Supercoppa Italiana.

Conte ready for Manchester United

After the Champions League defeat to Atlético Madrid, Calciomercato journalist Daniele Longo took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share an update.

He reports the former Chelsea manager ‘wants Manchester United’. The coach feels ready for a new challenge in the Premier League, after his spells with the Blues and Tottenham Hotspur.

Antonio Conte recently admitted his dream is to join a club that “lost sight of its history”. This led to suggestions of Juventus and AC Milan as options from Italy.

Another journalist, Carlo Pellegatti, explains about the manager’s current situation on his YouTube channel and Milan News have relayed his comments.

“Conte reiterated this today to a colleague, a colleague I know well: ‘I haven’t had any contact with any club, but I will only move if I receive offers from clubs with important projects. Otherwise, I won’t move, even for a long time, even for an indefinite period’,” he said.

“The other point is something he had already expressed a few days ago, also reiterating that he would like to join a club that has a great desire to return to greatness. We’ve all thought about Milan and Juventus as possible clubs. Now, however, Milan is continuing with Ruben Amorim.”

Longo and Pellegatti’s latest updates indicate Conte is waiting for Manchester United to make an offer. He may not be the only candidate in the running if Michael Carrick were to leave the club.
