Club Tijuana’s Gilberto Mora has encouraged Liverpool rumours after making a gesture towards the Premier League side.
The 18-year-old’s rise in Mexico has caught the attention of a few European clubs, with Liverpool seemingly in the lead.
He made 62 appearances, managing 15 goals and three assists. since his first team debut in 2025 The attacking midfielder has also represented Mexico at the World Cup.
Mora turned 18 years of age on October 14th, making him eligible to move to Anfield. Prior to his birthday, the Mexican media covered the Merseyside club’s firm desire to secure his services.
Liverpool offer claims
On October 6th, TUDN journalist David Faitelson reported on Andoni Iraola’s side tabling a $50m [€43m] bid. There has also reports of the Reds reaching an agreement.
Last week, Gilberto Mora’s agent Rafaela Pimenta dismissed claims of an agreement with another club. However, the agent has opened the door for a move to Europe.
She said: “Everything will come, everything will arrive. Everything will happen as we think and as we planned, but on his birthday, we’re only going to think about celebrating his life, his coming of age, his future, and his past, which for me is what’s important.”
At the weekend, Tijuana settled for a goalless draw against Puebla FC. Mora missed this tie because of an injury but was present in his side’s home stadium.
Mexican’s thumps-up to Liverpool
While walking back towards the dressing room, a fan shouted “Liverpool, Liverpool” with what appeared to be the Reds’ shirt. Gilberto Mora immediately responded to them with a thumbs-up.
Record in Mexico says his ‘gesture’ has fuelled the Reds links, when his dream of moving to a top European club is ‘becoming increasingly real’.
The youngster is attracting interest from other clubs while Andoni Iraola’s side remains one of the strongest contenders.
Despite Mora’s gesture, Record insists his future remains a mystery, especially because there’s no public confirmation of Liverpool contacting him or his camp so far.
There’s likely to be further developments in this case as we get closer towards the January window. For now, various reports indicate the Merseyside club are in the driver’s seat to secure his services.
