Liverpool star Alexis Mac Allister is attracting interest from Manchester City, Atlético Madrid and others, and the Premier League side will take action to keep him at Anfield.

The Argentina international joined the Reds from Brighton & Hove Albion in June 2023. He has played under Jürgen Klopp, Arne Slot and Andoni Iraola, and has been a regular.

Mac Allister made 163 appearances for Liverpool, managing 23 goals and 21 assists. He has four goals and an assist from 13 matches this season. His performances, coupled with the contract situation, make him an attractive option for Manchester City and others.

The midfielder has just over 20 months left on his contract and the Merseyside club haven’t taken steps to secure his future.

Liverpool player and agent go public

In May, Alexis Mac Allister’s father, Carlos, who is also his agent, said Liverpool haven’t opened renewal talks.

At that time, he said: “We believe the club’s fans deserve that level of respect from the player. So far, the club hasn’t negotiated with us regarding a contract renewal.”

A month later, the representative insisted on pressing a pause button on his client’s future at Liverpool.

Last month, the player said he’s a “little sad” not to have received a renewal offer, after some of his teammates signed extensions.

Manchester City monitor Liverpool star

The 27-year-old’s contract situation has led to repeated links of interest from a few top European clubs in recent weeks.

Carlos Mac Allister gave the aforementioned two interviews to Winwin. The same outlet now shares the latest about Liverpool’s plans and Manchester City’s interest. They would have obtained this information from his agent.

Alexis is attracting a lot of interest, specifically from both Enzo Maresca’s side and Atlético Madrid. This has seen the Reds respond, and their management is ‘set to take concrete action’ by presenting a renewal offer.

In fact, Liverpool are preparing to make a formal proposal and this will be the decisive step to extend his stay beyond 2028.

This is mainly because Andoni Iraola considers him ‘indispensable’. The South American understands the manager’s instructions and game very well and would have a key role under Iraola in the long run.

Winwin makes no mention of the details of the offer that the Reds are preparing or about the player’s stance.
